CATONSVILLE, Md. - On 11 April, three members from Fort McHenry Composite Squadron (FMCS) attended training in cariopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) at Bloomsbury Community Center. CPR is a combination of rescue breathing and chest compressions to help people in cardiac arrest. An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses types of heart attacks. It uses electrical therapy - a shock - to allow the heart to reestablish a normal rhythm.

ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. - On May 15, 2009 senior members and cadets from Fort McHenry Composite Squadron (FMCS) attended the Joint Services Open House at Andrew's Air Force Base, Camp Springs, Maryland. Representatives from all four branches of the military, dozens of aircraft and vehicles, and hundreds of visitors attended.
Visitors passed through a hangar where tables were set up with brochures, equipment, and weapons to examine and handle, and vehicles to explore. There were soldiers at each table who were very knowledgeable and had used the materials in combat locations. The Army had Rangers and some other Special Operations Forces, along with infantry. The Navy had a handful of SEALs and the Marines had some Force Recon members. The Air Force had Combat Controllers. There were also soldiers that had served at medics and veterinarians, building engineers, and other specialists. Cadets and senior members all enjoyed inspecting the weaponry and "kit", such as M4 rifles, thermal monoculars, and trying on vests that had seen combat. Everyone enjoyed the hands-on equipment and the very down to earth soldiers who were willing to share their time and experiences with us. |

On March 14, 2009, Capt. Christopher Hiles of the Fort McHenry Composite Squadron presented the Crisis Communication Plan to the Maryland Wing’s Public Affairs Officers. Capt. Hiles wrote the entire plan, the training, and the deliverables—a considerable accomplishment. The plan is designed to provide direction to unit commanders and PAOs in responding to a public affairs incident outside of an Air Force assigned mission. The training gives PAOs all the information they need to successfully contribute to a communications crisis in Maryland Wing. Present were Capt. Chris Hiles, Capt. Brenda Breed, the Wing PAO, Capt. Gayle Hirst, PAO from the Fort McHenry Composite Squadron, and 1st Lt. Julie Holley from the Bowie Composite Squadron. |
